It is not debatable that the influence of media is gaining day by day.what with developing countries like india itself having more than 100 dedicated news channels.Yes there is bound to be competition with such surge in news media.every news channel wants to have a better television rating point (TRP) ,than the other...fair enough, thats acceptable. But to go to any extent to increase viewership, that isnt acceptable. This certainly needs some introspection.
In the past few weeks, therehave been several instances where the media have gone hay wire..a very good point in case is the the recent incident of a 6 year boy named prince falling into a 60 deep feet pit,yes this happening certainly demands sympathy as well as empathy, but for all news channels to telecast the rescue efforts for 60hours nonstop is ridiculous.. Come on there are certainly more important things effecting the world..there are issues of poverty, unemployment, terrorism, racism, war etc etc dooming large over the world...
But instead of finding solutions and throwing light on these ,what our media is harping upon are the celebrities.there surely are many journalists making their living upon these celebrities. Are we become so celebrity obsessed that the media faithfully enlightens us with the what these celebrities eat, drink, wear, who they sleep with etc...wow, we certainly will acheive salvation with such knowledge.Yes entertainment is certainly important but at what cost.
To add to all the woes are the "trial by media",where one is convicted even before he is tried...by who no one else than our own great media....whatever happened to the saying "one is innocent until proved guilty"
